ABOUT OUR PAPER

Baryta has a structured, grain free surface with a velvety smooth luster finish. This is a top choice when you want bright colors because the barium sulphate layer holds ink beautifully and is naturally bright. This amazing substrate also features deep, solid blacks, which is known as high D-Max. Most of our Baryta is 310 gsm (grams per square meter) so it is substantial.

Hahnemuhle Photo Rag 308 has been called the Bugatti of paper. In a side by side comparison to many other papers, our artists chose this one because it has the perfect look and feel. It is seriously archival, achieving a good whiteness of 92.5% without a lot of optical brighteners. The smooth matte surface is gorgeous, and at 308 gsm it is good and hefty. It is called photo rag because it is made from cotton rag. It holds a lot of ink so you get deep colors. This substrate is lignin free and buffered with calcium carbonate so it will last a hundred years easily if you treat it right. Hahnemuhle 308 is somewhat water resistant, but we recommend protecting it behind glass or spraying it with an archival sealant.
